Institute Chronology
- 1948
- Romanian Academy organizes the Mathematical Institute with branches
at Cluj-Napoca and Iaşi.
- 1951
- The section of Mathematics of the Cluj-Napoca Branch of the Romanian Academy is founded
by Prof. Tiberiu Popoviciu.
- 1957
- The section of Mathematics of the Cluj-Napoca Branch of the Romanian Academy becomes
"Institutul de Calcul" (Institute of Numerical Analysis) of the Romanian Academy,
with two departments:
- Department of approximation and calculus theory;
- Computer department.
- 1958
- The first national Cybernetics Symposium is organized.
The journal "Mathematica (Cluj)" is reactivated.
- 1959
- The relay computer MARICA is built.
- 1963
- The computer DACICC-1 is built.
- 1968
- The computer department becomes a department of the
Institute of Computers (ITC - Institutul de Tehnica de Calcul).
The computer DACICC-200 is built
- 1972
- The journal "Revue d'Analyse
Numérique et de Théorie de l'Aproximation" is founded.
- 1975
- The Institute of Numerical Analysis is transferred from the Romanian Academy to the
National Education Minister and the number of researchers is reduced from 48 to 6.
- 1990
- The Institute of Numerical Analysis is reintegrated within the Romanian Academy.
- 1995
- The name of the Institute is changed into «Institutul de Calcul "Tiberiu
Popoviciu"» (ICTP), or «"Tiberiu Popoviciu" Institute of Numerical
Analysis» in English.
- 2003
- The Institute is evacuated by "Babeş-Bolyai" University from its residence in
Republicii street No. 37 where had functioned for 55 years.
- 2008
- ICTP50 Conference celebrating the semicentennial of the
foundation of the Institute.
