Tiberiu Popoviciu's biography
Tiberiu Popoviciu is the founder of the Cluj-Napoca
school of numerical analysis and approximation theory.
- 1906
- T.P. is born on the 16-th of February, at Arad.
- 1924
- T.P. graduates the "Moise Nicoara" High School in Arad and is admitted
to the Sciences Faculty at the Bucharest University.
- 1923-1925
- T.P. is the editor of a school mathematical journal.
- 1924
- T.P. is the winner of the national contest organized by the "Mathematical
Gazette".
- 1927
- T.P. takes his degree in mathematics.
- 1927-1930
- T.P. is student at "L'École Normale Supérieure" in
Paris.
- 1928
- T.P. takes his degree in sciences at Paris.
- 1933
- T.P. earns a Ph.D. degree in Mathematics with the dissertation "Sur
quelques propriétés des fonctions d'une ou de deux variables
réelles" elaborated under the guidance of Prof. Paul Montel.

- T.P. is librarian and then assistant lecturer at Sciences Faculty
of Cluj University.

- T.P. is lecturer at the Sciences Faculty in Cernăuţi.
- 1940-1942
- T.P. is assistent professor at the Bucharest University.

- T.P. is professor of functions theory at the Sciences Faculty in
Iaşi.

- T.P. is professor of algebra and number theory at the Mathematics
and Physics Faculty at Babeş-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca.

- T.P. is elected as associate member of Romanian Academy.
T.P. is appointed as head of the Mathematical Analysis Department
of the Mathematics and Physics Faculty at the Babeş-Bolyai University
in Cluj.
- 1957
- T.P. is appointed as director of the Institute of Numerical Analysis.
- 1963
- T.P. is elected as member of Romanian Academy.
- 1975
- T.P. dies after the Institute of Numerical Analysis is transferred
from the Romanian Academy to the National Education Minister and the
number of researchers is reduced from 48 to 6.
